“You know, Bud, my name is Indie, which is short for Indigo. I’m called that because my spiritual mentor told me I have an indigo aura. I bet you have no idea what that means, do you?”

Bud sat in the big comfy chair and nodded his head no while Indie towered above him, as much as a thin wiry woman could tower.

“An indigo aura represents a spiritual seeker, someone who’s well-evolved and very patient. But I’m about to lose my patience with you. I already lost it with your uncle.”

Bud got up and went and got an Eskimo Pie from the cooler, handing it to Indie. “Have a seat,” he told her, pointing to the chair he’d just vacated.

Indie sat down and opened the wrapper on the ice cream. “I haven’t had one of these for years,” she said. “I usually don’t eat junk food.”

“One every few years or so won’t hurt you,” Bud replied. “But Indie, I can’t believe you would aid and abet my uncle in being irresponsible.”

“If I hadn’t given him a ride, his old truck would be sitting there at the railroad yard and eventually be towed. Besides, I’m encouraging him to mature and grow by reliving his past and resolving old issues. Maybe you’d like to start getting therapy, too?” She raised her eyebrows.

“I thought maybe you were counseling him,” Bud replied, “But for some reason, I can’t picture it, my uncle going to a therapist, and not just any therapist, but you.”

Indie’s eyes flashed. “What do you mean by that?”

“I mean, you and my uncle are about as different as can be in world views. You know that.”

“The mark of a mature evolved human being is the ability to consider different viewpoints. Junior’s making some progress, though he has a long ways to go, I admit.” Indie began licking the chocolate layer off the Eskimo Pie.

Bud continued, “Are you making any progress?”

“With Junior?”

“No, with seeing different viewpoints.”

Indie shot him a look. “That’s my area of expertise,” she replied. “That’s what therapists do.”

“Really? Then why are you trying to change my uncle? I happen to like him as he is. You’ve somehow convinced him he needs help.”

“Look, Bud, you really are trying my patience,” Indie answered. “I’m an addiction counselor. Your uncle came to me. He has an addiction he wants me to help him with.”

“What in the world could he be addicted to? Tea? Oneryness?”

“I’m not at liberty to discuss my clients’ personal matters,” she answered. “But I will say that it’s made his life very difficult, and he wants to change it. It has to do with LuAnn, and I can’t say any more about it.”

“LuAnn? She just left.”

“What? She left?” Indie stood, visibly upset. “That’s not part of the plan. She can’t leave! Where did she go?”

“Telluride. It’s OK, Indie, there’s lots of groceries here in the store. You won’t starve.”

“Listen, Buster, this isn’t about me. LuAnn’s part of the plan. If she leaves, Junior will just regress backwards. I’m beginning to see some progress and that will just end it.
